I was born on March 5th, 1949 in Bergisch Gladbach near the 2000 year old city of Cologne in Germany. Cologne missed its 2000-year anniversary celebrations because, right about when they were gearing up for the grand festivities, they dug up a few extra ruins even older than the two millenia, and thus they were cheated out of one huge big party. Sigh, poor Colonians. :)I received my technical education in Cologne from the "Nikolaus-August-Otto Ingenieurschule" (School of Engineering) which is now called
Fachhochschule Köln . (Nikolaus August Otto was the inventor of the four-stroke-combustion engine, so if you drive a car you have something to thank him for.) At the illustrious educational facility that bears Otto's name, I majored in "Electrical Engineering" with a minor in "Data Processing". I am working in the computer industry for over 20 years now, with more than 15 years of experience as a manager. In 1974 I married Una Jeffers, an American whom I met in Cologne in Germany. Una is the granddaughter of the late American poet Robinson Jeffers. - Una grew up in a lovely stone house called "Tor House" , it has a massive 40 foot high granite tower that her grandfather built right on the Pacific ocean in the charming little town of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
I came to the U.S.A. in the summer of 1976 and we settled for 25 years in Sunnyvale in the San Francisco Bay Area. Before I joined "Sun Microsystems, Inc." in 1989, I worked for 8 years as an engineering manager at "Rolm Corporation" a telecommunication company (now a part of Siemens AG Germany); and before that at "Spectra Medical Systems" a provider of hospital administration systems.
For over 11 years I worked as a manager at Sun Mircosystems Inc., in Mountain View and Menlo Park in California (that is in the Silicon Valley - south of San Francisco). My last position was in the Solaris Operating System department at Sun where I was responsible for "Commands and Libraries" and for the "Application Binary Interface (ABI)"
After almost 11 1/2 years working at Sun I retired in November 2000 (Yippie!!) and now I have time to concentrate and enjoy my artistic endeavors which hopefully will involve much life drawing, painting, and sculpting, and some exiting
travel.
